Silk

After the Umbrella Festival, our driver took us to a silk weavers store. We saw silk worms in their various stages and saw how the fine silk is hand woven on looms... then on to the Thai Silk store, of course.
This place was very beautiful, with rooms of gorgeous Thai silk on bolts to be made into garments, rooms of men's shirts/ties, rooms of shawls and scarves and women's clothing. Since it was the real Thai silk, it was not cheap but indeed cheaper than we could find in the USA. We spent some time looking and bought some things as gifts and for ourselves, but wish we could have spent the day there. (Well, correction, I could have spent the day there and spent the rest of the trip's budget, too!) Just a few photos to come shortly of the place and I must explain the Baby Spirit House photo....... One of the women who worked there had just become a grandmother and this creation is her homage, her "spirit house" for her new grandchild... right in front of the cash register!!! LOVED IT!! (BTW, everyone has to have a spirit house of some sort with their home or business or place to protect them from bad spirits and to house the good spirit that belongs to them.)
