Sabaidee Luang Prabang

This was our guest house breakfast each morning at Lotus Villas here in LP; it became our main meal of the day. Lovely staff; lovely place; quiet and simple.

I'm wondering how you found these places to stay, or perhaps you didn't plan it all out?

I haven't heard the name Luang Prabang since the early seventies; Dave Van Ronk wrote a song with that name in the title during the American bombing of such a beautiful place (1970-71) and people. It is truly a wonder that they have placed those memories into the background (or so it seems) and now welcome visitors from the USA.

For the curious: Patrick Sky singing Dave's song

Not a particularly 'pretty song', but neither is war an endearing human activity.

Hi JIm,
Denise lived in France for 14 years and knows that a lot of French people like to come here to LP.
It is very amazing that people are so nice to us, as Americans, really...... but almost everyone we see is very young.
Lovely and sweet people........j

Well, I said I had a million questions . . . I'll start with a couple: Food - what do you like the most; how are dinners/lunches prepared: sauteed, fried, poultry, fish? Breakfasts look so tasty - I HATE cereal and have had a bowl of chicken soup more than once.

The orphanage: Jerry and I have gone to Acoma and Taos Pueblos in NM and were VERY uncomfortable. We felt like moneyed whites watching the poor natives. I know they need the money, but, wasn't it - I don't know - uncomfortable - taking the pics?they know that smiling faces will help . . .

Did you take the night bus to Vientiane? It's going to rain/sleet/snow for the rest of the week, so enjoy the warmth.

By the way, Denise, how does Illinois get to elect the cream of the crop - BLAG . . . ??? Coming from NJ, we know corruption, but Ill seems to do it for fun!
