Wat Po Massage School

After the Grand Palace we hopped onto the river ferry again for 2 stops to see the Wat Po.
(A Wat is an ancient collection of buildings, temples, buddhist monastery, community center )
Walking the side walks in this area was mind blowing...... see photos. There is a massage school associated with this Wat and so the street vendors and shops featured a mysterious and amazing array of ointments and herbs, etc. Denise had researched the massage school and learned that they have a reputation for the best massages in Thailand. We had to find the place first though, and that took some perseverence. It is a little open shop, down a side street (few streets have name signs, so it is tricky to find anything) Very unglamorous, very basic place but we all signed up for massage and were so happy we did. John had a 45 minute foot massage for 12 usd and Densie had a 30 minute massage for 7 usd and I had a back massage for 7 usd. They are deep tissue massage, not really relaxing, but very theraputic!

I'm really envious right now...had many Thai massages, but don't remember any deep tissue stuff. In 1970, I seem to recall one Baht was worth a nickle...yee sip yip ( 20) Baht for one US dollar. You could buy a fresh mellon or pineapple at a road side farm stand for one Baht.

John...the phrase you want to remember "Yahk pu-ying dak sway." Need I say more :).

Bruce - I am going to pretend I didn't see your post. Oh wait, then I wouldn't be responding to it. Let's still pretend. :)

In any event, those pictures are soooo beautiful and colorful!

ps. I can't wait to do our Top Chef meal with some of spices/herbs from stands like those!

Yikes...Sorry, Annie...didn't realize Thai was one of your many languages.

Haha...it's not - context clues are though!

My best buddy just returned from 3 weeks in Thailand, raving about the massages he received. He's now searching Vancouver for a similar service.

You guys are having such cool times!
