The Rama Kings Grand Palace

Tuesday, January 13, we all took the public ferry boat to Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace.
We will post a lot of photos for this description because it is hard to do it justice with words. It was originally the home of many of the Thai kings (Ramas 1, 2, 3, 4 , etc. until now when the present King Rama lives a few miles away in another palace). It is also a buddhist holy place with many edifices and monuments and places of worship and meditation. Some were open to the public and some closed only for special occasions such as a coronation, a royal funeral, or recently, the 91st birthday of the present King Rama. The Thai's generally love and revere the Royal Family and there is great respect for them. Thailand is the only country in SE Asia not ever colonized and there is great pride in that. Their culture is deep and we can only scratch the surface. The Custom after viewing the emerald buddha is to take a lotus flower and dip it into holy water and touch your head....... for good health.
