Our second day in Hong Kong is sunny and springlike weather. John and I are planning our strategy forshopping the daytime "Ladies Market" here in Kowloon and then we might meetDenise for trip to the Peak and dinner.
It seems really hard to write about a huge and dense place after just one day but there might be more after tonight.
First impression of Hong Kong is that the island is one huge and dense city of
high rise spires and super deluxe malls with prices that were blowing our minds. We checkedout the menu for dinner at a restaurant called Spring Moon at the Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon ... The Abalone entre was USD $350. YES, that is in US dollars. As soon as we can figure out how to get photos onto the blog, I will post a photo of some melons in the Four Seasons mall food emporium...they are a seasonal special type and just one melon was priced at USD $65!!!!!
Get the idea?
We are hoping to find some bargains in the Ladies Market and might get over to the bird market just to look. Going over the mountain to see the expat community of Stanley yesterday was interesting .. nice beaches and abodes but of course we know that there is so much more to Hong Kong and our 2 day layover won't do it justice. Our young cab driver on the way back wanted to know if we liked Obama and was delighted with our shout in unison of "YES". He held a white collar job until recently and is driving a cab until the economy gets better. Very much
aware the global economic downturn and was putting a lot of hope onto our new government
as much as we are. He also wanted to know exactly how tall John was...haha.

Guess you will not be eating a lot of Melons in Hong Kong!

Let us know about the Ladies Market.

BTW...how much did John's new hat cost?

I'm wondering what you are eating? Guess I would have to find a local market.......or loose a lot of weight. Love reading the blogs....tell Denise I think of her often and hope you all are having a great time.
